Cory Doctorow – The Politics of Copyright and the New Cultural Economy
Der Science Fiction Autor und politische Aktivist Cory Doctorow war am 6. Dezember im Walcheturm und sprach über die Politik des Urheberrechts und seine Erfahrungen mit der freien Kultur sprechen.
Cory Doctorow ist einer der profiliertesten Kenner beider Materien, er arbeitete unter anderem als Europäischer Repräsentant der Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) und hat über 7 Romane publiziert, zuletzt “Makers” und “For the Win”. Die neueste Veröffentlichung ist die Aufsatzsammlung “Context: Selected Essays on Productivity, Creativity,Parenting, and Politics in the 21st Century”. Auf Dt. erschienen ist u.a. “Little Brother”.
Cory Doctorow ist auch ein brillanter Redner. Es war also nicht nur für einen interessanten sondern auch unterhaltsamen Abend gesorgt.
Die Veranstaltung wurde von der Digitalen Allmend, in Zusammenarbeit mit der Vertiefung Mediale Künste (ZHdK), Dock18, Walcheturm und Wikimedia Schweiz organisiert. KulturTV, Roger Levy, hat die Veranstaltung mit seiner Kamera begleitet.

Peter Hogenkamp, Leiter der NZZ Digital, wird als Respondent die Diskussion eröffnen. Gefolgt von Annette Schindler, Expertin für Medienkunst, Gegenwartskunst, Design, Kunst und Recht.

Copyright, patents, trademarks… Sometimes it seems that entrepreneurship is all about protecting your ideas so that no one else can copy them, expressed in the ubiquitous “all rights reserved”. But what is the alternative? No rights at all?
Especially in the realm of social entrepreneurship, many innovators face the tension of wanting to share everything freely and yet keep control over what they have created. How can this tension be mediated? Is there some middle ground? Apparently there is: Creative Commons (CC) have developed a legal and technical infrastructure to maximize digital creativity, sharing and innovation with “some rights reserved”.
At this interactive Hub event, we’ll take a closer look at the story of CC. Philippe Perreaux, core team member of CC Switzerland and founder of the soon-to-be-launched music licensing platform rightclearing.com, will give us an overview about the thinking behind CC and share his personal experience regarding some of the tensions outlined above. We will then explore the question further in the context of social entrepreneurship and the collaborative practices of the Hub in particular. Michel Bachmann, co-founder of Hub Zürich and co-director of Hub Global, will share his personal insights on the latest developments in the broader Hub Network and pose the question of what we can learn from CC for the development of a truly collaborative innovation environment.
